Colorado
Parks and Recreation .
With some of the most beautiful mountains in the world, opportunites for outdoor
adventure in Colorado abound. The state's natural beauty is becoming better protected
with over 40 State Parks, 6 Federal Parks, a myriad of Federal Wilderness areas,
a host Bureau of Land Management land, and 13 National Forests and Grasslands.
The total acreage of these sites is almost a third of the state, the government
owns roughly 45% of the state's land. In Colorado the Forest Service, Bureau of
Land Management, Fish and Wildlife Service, and the National Park Service managed
23,455,115 acres in 1994. Since then there have been two new Wilderness Acts that
have increased that number. These sites are open to the public, but have
rules a regulations governing each. For instance you are allowed to camp only
in designated spots for campgrounds in Rocky Mountain National Park. Several
of the large lakes and reservoirs also fall into the boundaries of these sites.

information.
